Biography

Eli Sidman works in sculpture, printmaking, and painting. He currently lives and works in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Sidman’s work explores how simple rules can be used to shape the complexity we see in the physical world, both natural and man-made. Simple rules of color, design, and construction confront the basic implications of physics and astronomy, where underlying elegant equations explain the myriad of phenomena in the world around us.

In addition to his artwork, Sidman has an extensive background in scientific research and science education. Currently an instructor in the Department of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he has conducted gamma-ray astrophysics research for NASA at the Marshall Space Flight Center, and x-ray research with Bowdoin College and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
